Recurring Tasks & Templates

For chores that happen on a regular schedule — like "brush teeth" every day, or "take out the trash" every Monday — you don't want to recreate the task each time. Recurring tasks solve this.

Setting up a recurring task

  1. When creating (or editing) a task, turn on Repeat.
  2. Choose which days of the week it should repeat on.
  3. Save — this task becomes a template, and the app automatically generates individual task instances for the upcoming days.

How it behaves

  • Each generated instance is approved/rejected independently, just like a one-time task.
  • The template itself doesn't show up in your kid's task list — only the generated instances do.
  • Editing the template (title, points, schedule, due time, and so on) replaces already-generated instances with new ones reflecting your changes — but only ones due after today that are still waiting on your kid. Anything due today or earlier, or that your kid has already acted on (completed, approved, or rejected), is left as-is.

Setting an end date

Recurring tasks can optionally have an End Date — once the schedule runs its course, the template stops generating new instances and moves to Archived (use the Active/Archived switch on the Tasks screen to find it). An archived template's past instances stay in your history; duplicate it if you want to start a fresh recurring task with the same details.

Pausing a recurring task

You can temporarily disable a recurring task without deleting it. Use the Active toggle on any recurring task template:

  • Turning it off removes all upcoming instances immediately — your kid won't see tasks they haven't started yet.
  • Turning it back on regenerates instances for the next several days right away, without waiting for the next daily refresh.

The template itself (title, schedule, points) is fully preserved while it's inactive.

Task templates for quick reuse

Beyond recurrence, you can also save any task as a template under Presets, so you can quickly reuse the same title, points, and description for a one-off task later without typing it all again. See Presets & Templates.
